To celebrate Italian cuisine’s UNESCO Intangible Heritage recognition, the President’s Council has decided to hold an Extraordinary Ecumenical Gathering on Thursday 19 March 2026.
Italian Cuisine is the first in the world to have obtained such recognition, which honours our identity and what we are: essentially, traditional home cooking, not fine dining.
We suggest that Delegations and Legations in Italy invite the following to the event: the press, local radio and television stations, mayors, and city councillors for culture and tourism; for Delegations and Legation abroad: representatives of diplomatic networks (Ambassadors, Consuls), Italian Cultural Institutes, Italian and local Chambers of Commerce and the Dante Alighieri Society.
The menu is not centred on a specific dish as with ordinary ecumenical dinners: the choice is free, but each Delegation and Legation must propose a traditional dish best representing their territory or the specialities of the chosen venue.
This Extraordinary Ecumenical Gathering replaces our traditional convivial dinner, usually held in March.
